In halting an event of this magnitude in mid-stride, the owners and board members of the International Tile Exposition as well as the managers of the show, Taffy Event Strategies, have met the global challenge head-on. We'll all miss experiencing the latest tiles and stone from around the world, meeting up with industry friends, supporters and colleagues, the wide array of tile education opportunities as well as honoring amazing tile and stone installations in the Awards Programs. We look forward to Coverings 2021 in Orlando, FL.
MISSION IN PLACE! Tile Heritage Foundation Staff and Volunteers are "safe & sound" at the moment. THF offices and library are on the property of Sheila Menzies & Joe Taylor - so they always 'work from home'... We've been able to plan for some staff tasks and archiving projects to be handled remotely off-site - keeping many aspects of what we do running smoothly with everyone's health and safety as the highest priority
Tile Heritage Foundation is an archival library dedicated to the preservation of ceramic surfaces and their history. We are looking for a volunteer (pro bono) grant writer and/or proposal writer.

Honoring a Tile Industry Innovator, Theodore “Ted” Clear who passed away October 1st 2019. In 1970 Ted invented and patented the process for concrete backer board and commercially produced the original Wonderboard™ for Modular, Inc. In TileLetter, December 2019 Mark Albonetti, PROVO Installation & Technical Specialist said " Ted Clear's invention is by far the single most important thing for our tile history" … " mass produced backer board allowed for much faster and efficient tile installation, changing the tile industry for ever and leading the way for further innovations today with foam boards and underlayments." Tile Heritage Foundation will have a Signature Global Hand Print produced for Ted Clear for the posterity mural to be installed at TCNA. VIVA Ted!

In Memory of Tile Heritage member PHYLLIS PACIN, Ceramist & Tile Maker. Oakland CA - we found out recently that she had passed away Spring 2019. Phyllis was an early adapter of 3D illusion in design on tiles. Organically abstract, playful, colorful luster glazes and frequently raku fired, her finest work was in architectural compositions.
Phyllis contributed a strong voice in the art tile community of the greater Bay Area and beyond. She is greatly missed by family and friends. Phyllis's body of work is her legacy and is to be found in the Tile Heritage Collection, museum collections, public collections and private homes.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE UPDATE!
Thank you all for your concern and communications with us! We are located in the HEART of Sonoma County, California. . . an area impacted recently by wildfire. Tile Heritage is SAFE!
. . . we are SAFE . . . and our surrounding community is safe . . .
Our heartfelt appreciation to the over 5000 First Responders, air and ground support that have worked for over two weeks to bring the fires under control and keep our community safe - at this writing, the wildfire here is 100% contained! November is still a very dry month in Northern California. We remain vigilant regarding the conditions and are doing all we can to continue to safe-keep our home, Tile Heritage and the legacy it represents.

GLOBAL HAND PRINTS - THANK YOU! Grazzini Brothers & Company had THE company wide GLOBAL HAND PRINT workshop for their employees on September 30th and October 1st! Approx. 56 people participated!
GLOBAL HAND PRINTS - THANK YOU! Grazzini Brothers & Company of St. Paul MN are planning a Hand Prints workshop for their staff next week. In preparation, volunteers from Grazzini spent Saturday, Sept. 21st with ceramist Josh Blanc at his studio (Clay Squared to Infinity) in Minneapolis where he volunteered to make the 9x9x3/4 wet clay blanks with them for the project. Josh will also be firing the finished tiles.

These tiles will eventually join the hundreds more staged at TCNA ( Tile Council of North America). Eventually all of the Global Hand Print tiles from all over the country and beyond, will be installed at TCNA for posterity. The Global Tile Industry, You Have a Hand In It, supports the ongoing Tile Industry archiving work of the Tile Heritage Foundation. We greatly appreciate EVERYONE who has participated! Summer Funded Book Restoration work: Second PROGRESS REPORT with valuable books from the THF collection … this is a progress composite of the conservation of some of them. THANKS to the generosity of all FUNDERS!
THF Summer Appeal to Match $5000 in 30 days was a SUCCESS! We matched it! A sincere THANK YOU to all CONTRIBUTORS - 34 people were donors! Restoration work is going forward with the first four valuable books from the THF collection as well as one large document (18x24)… this is a progress composit of the repairs under way to the spine and interior of 'GESCHICHTE der FLEISEN-KERAMIC' circa 1900's in our care and keeping.. a book used by more than one art tile company in the 1920's for design inspiration! After repair is finalized it will be included in a traveling exhibition next year.
