The National Tile Installation Registry, a program of the Tile Heritage Foundation, is a public database of exceptional historical and contemporary ceramic tile installations. Its purpose is to inspire the appreciation and protection of these sites and promote the tile makers and tile installers of today.

This project is a work in progress... Launched in the summer of 2026, the Registry is a crowdsourced and donor-supported effort. To make the Registry a success, we need volunteers to photograph sites and data editors to collect and enter data. We also need financial support to continue this vital work. National Tile Installation Registry- Opens the Registry master list. Installations will be displayed from closest to furthest if location services are enabled on your computer or phone.
Image Gallery- Displays images of all registered installations at random. The order is reshuffled every night. Click on an image for more information and a link to the installation.
Find a Company- Displays a searchable list of tile-related businesses from closest to furthest if location services are enabled on your computer or phone. Click any entry to view the company profile.

Getting images we can legally use in the Registry is our greatest challenge. If you are near a site or have images you can share, let us know, and we will send an upload link. Or you can join us as a volunteer contributor.

Making the Connection Between Our Tile Heritage and Today's Industry
Side-by-side images of historic and contemporary projects inspire users with the tile art form's rich history and use history's authority to ignite interest in tile.
Each entry in the Registry represents a permanent historical record of an installation, including details of who designed, produced, sold, and installed the tile.
Entries also include an image gallery to offer a visual archive of a project. For public installations, location and site access information is recorded to encourage people to visit a site.
Within each record, there is also a list of links to information about the people and companies that participated in the creation of the project. For historic sites, the links lead to brief histories of each individual or company to provide an entry point into tile history.
For contemporary projects, the links lead to company profiles that include contact information, location details, and project image galleries. The profile also includes links to all projects the company or person has in the Registry.
What kinds of tile installations can be registered?
National Tile Installation Registry sites are locations featuring architectural tile or mosaics that embody artistic, cultural, or industrial significance. The site may be historic or contemporary, and international sites are eligible for inclusion. Permanent museum collections and displays of historic tile may also be included in the Registry.
To be eligible for consideration, a site must meet one or more of the following criteria, as determined by the National Tile Installation Registry Selection Committee. The committee is composed of Tile Heritage Foundation staff, board members, and members of the ceramic tile and mosaic communities.

- Represents a masterful architectural installation of ceramic tile or mosaic art
- Demonstrates superior installation craftsmanship and design
- Portrays a cultural tile-making tradition or mosaic technique
- Illustrates a dramatic or important advancement in artistic or industrial tile making or use
- Exemplifies a significant permanent museum tile collection
