THF has developed an archive for the tile industry in the United States. In addition to the books and letters in its library, the THF collection includes historic American tiles from companies dating back to the late 19th century, as well as tiles from contemporary artisans.
Additionally, THF has a collection of historic documents, tile catalogs, and tile-related books and periodicals covering a period of more than 135 years. THF has archived approximately 140,000 images of individual tiles and installations from around the country and from around the world.
THF preserves these collections for posterity, and they belong to all of us!
Notable Installations
These notable ceramic tile installations are drawn from the Tile Heritage Foundation’s extensive archives. In alignment with THF’s mission to preserve and promote awareness of ceramic tile, this rotating feature showcases examples of craftsmanship, design, and cultural significance, celebrating the rich legacy of ceramic surfaces in the United States.
We encourage visitors to submit noteworthy installations — historic or contemporary — for consideration. You help expand the collective understanding and appreciation of tile as a vital part of our shared cultural heritage.
