Open a file in the Tile Heritage Foundation Archives, and build your legacy!

The Tile Heritage Foundation (THF) Archive files currently number more than 450 historic tile companies and more than 700 contemporary archive files. 

A THF Archive file is a service of THF open to the greater tile community, THF members and non-members alike, at no charge.

The materials THF archives become part of a body of work that forms the legacy of those in the tile industry. The Archive also serves to confer third-party legitimacy in marketing and proposals for new work.

We encourage manufacturers, studios, distributors, dealers, contractors, the design community, tile installers, and other tile-related support industries to establish a THF Archive file. This protects for posterity hard copy, physical documents, and materials related to a company's history. You can start an Archive file and add to your file at any time.

A THF Archive file is a living, growing, changing repository of a company’s trade and craft. It also serves as a resource for restoration work and information on historic tiles and tile installations.

The THF Archives are national public records; the presence of a company file further validates and honors the work now and into the future. You can access these materials by request or review them in person with an appointment to conduct research at the THF Archives.

What can go in a THF Archive file?

Hard copy materials that you can include in an Archive file are as follows:

  • Promotional materials
  • Correspondence related to business (and personal if tile related)
  • Awards, commendations, and recognitions
  • Business records and job records
  • News clippings
  • Hard copy photography
  • Any published data about the company

Note. THF has an online Finding-Aid Index that includes aspects of historic and contemporary archived company listings, among other topics. The THF Finding-Aid Index has been years in development; it will be publicly accessible soon. This publicly shared document references what the Archive’s files contain for ease of research and discoverability. Email an inquiry to THF for access to records in the Finding Aid.
